Flow Monitoring

Flow gauging and monitoring at prospective sites enables accurate energy output predictions, the most informed design choices and the requirements of the Environment Agency consents to be met.

On sites that are not a main watercourse with a gauging station present, a form of flow monitoring is generally required (Note in Wales NRW generally do not require flow monitoring). We use the latest data logging equipment to accurately log and save information on the flow within the watercourse over a significant period of time.

These measurements are accurately calibrated using axial flow gauges and the data is compared with modelled data on the site which we create using a hydrological study which analyses the catchment and run off. Using these methods the typical flow regime is calculated. This is an important part of the consenting of any hydro scheme that requires an abstraction license or requires accurate energy output calculations.

We can provide site gauging as a stand alone service and we encourage you to contact us if you have a flow gauging requirement.
